Getting started

Overview

Manage bookmarks is a module in the Toolkit utility of the Legal Productivity Suite for Microsoft Word by Craftware Solutions LLC. It allows you to view, create, rename, delete, highlight and go to bookmarks in your document. This module is beneficial when creating or updating bookmarks for a table of contents or index since you're able to use it while editing the document at the same time.

Manage bookmarks

Viewing and navigating bookmarks

When the module loads, only non-hidden bookmarks in the document are listed (i.e., bookmarks without an underscore as the first character). You can toggle between including or excluding hidden bookmarks from the viewing list by pressing the Show hidden button at the bottom of the module. Once bookmarks are listed, they can be refreshed at any time by pressing the Refresh listed bookmarks button that will appear toward the top of the module after the bookmarks are listed. Each listed bookmark can be navigated to by clicking on the name.

Creating bookmarks

Two methods can be used to create the name of the bookmark. After creating the bookmark, the bookmark will automatically be added to the listed bookmarks in the module.

Manual entry

Manually type the desired name of your bookmark. This module will perform validation to ensure it meets Microsoft's length and naming requirements for bookmarks.

Autogenerate

To speed up the process of creating bookmarks, names can be automatically generated based on the currently selected text in the document. After selecting the desired content, press the Generate a name from the selection button shown below. The generated name appears in the same text field where you could type one, so you will have the opportunity to make edits to the proposed name before the bookmark is created.

Renaming and deleting bookmarks

The button with the blue pencil icon next to each listed bookmark allows you to rename the bookmark. You will be notified when the bookmark is successfully renamed. The renamed bookmark will appear in the automatically refreshed list.

The button with the red trash icon to the far right of each bookmark will delete the bookmark. Bookmarks can also be deleted by checking them and pressing the Delete checked button at the bottom of the module.

Highlighting bookmarks

When updating a bookmark-generated table of contents or index, it can be difficult to see if a bookmark is applied or not (e.g., determining whether a defined term is bookmarked). The Highlight checked button provides clarity and assists with this task by highlighting the checked bookmarks in the list.

Importantly, please note that the highlighting that's applied is a cosmetic one. The light blue shade will not print or be saved (i.e., it's not the conventional highlighting on the Home ribbon). To remove the cosmetic highlighting applied to the checked bookmarks, press the Unhighlight all bmrks button at the bottom of the module.
